HYDRAA officials reclaim encroached government and park land in Manikonda, Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Roads and Regional Asset Authority (HYDRAA) on Saturday freed government and park land in Manikonda Municipality that had been under illegal occupation for decades, safeguarding property valued at nearly ₹300 crore. The reclaimed assets include one acre of government land and 7,650 sq yards of park sites.

1 acre of encroached land cleared

In Panchavati Colony near Western Plaza, individuals who had occupied one acre of government land claiming ancestral ownership were evicted. The action followed a complaint to HYDRAA’s Prajavani by residents of Western Plaza. Acting on Commissioner AV Ranganath’s directions, HYDRAA officials, in coordination with revenue and municipal authorities, verified the land as government property, removed encroachments, fenced the site and erected HYDRAA signboards. Officials estimated the land’s value at around ₹1.55 crore.

In Venkateshwara Colony, HYDRAA recovered 1,600 sq yards of park land originally earmarked for public use in a 1992 layout. Some individuals had occupied the land without approval and even marked it with unauthorised plot numbers. After residents complained, an inquiry found that the land had been gifted to the then Neknampur gram panchayat in 1996 for park and public utility purposes. Although building permissions were later issued in 2019 after the area became a municipality, HYDRAA reclaimed the disputed site and marked it as park land with new signboards. The land’s value is estimated at ₹25 crore.

In Tirumala Hills within the same municipality, 6,150 sq yards of park land were also found encroached. HYDRAA removed temporary sheds and compound walls, fenced the area and installed boards designating it as park land. The market value of the site is pegged at ₹120 crore, according to local officials.
