HYDRAA destroys illegal constructions at Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake

Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on illegal constructions, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) demolished several buildings within the Full Tank Level (FTL) buffer zones of various ponds in Cyberabad on August 10, 2024 (Saturday).
The operation, conducted under the supervision of the Cyberabad Police, targeted encroachments on crucial water bodies. HYDRAA officials targeted the Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Lake area and Erla Pond in Chandanagar. They demolished multiple illegal structures, including an under-construction building, and removed protective walls and other unauthorised constructions in Chandanagar. Through these demolitions, authorities have reclaimed over ten acres of land belonging to the Bum-Rukn-ud-Dowla Pond Full Tank Level.
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath warned real estate developers and builders against continuing illegal constructions within pond buffer zones across the tri-cities of Hyderabad, Secunderabad, and Cyberabad. He said that strict legal action, including demolition, will be taken against those who violate the rules. Moreover, government officials found complicit in these illegal activities will face severe consequences.
HYDRAA Commissioner A. V. Ranganath is advising potential homebuyers to be cautious when purchasing properties near ponds. He is urging people to verify if a property is located within the mandatory 30-meter buffer zone before making a purchase. To help the public, HYDRAA will soon publish detailed information about buffer zones on its website.
The Commissioner also appealed to citizens and voluntary organisations to report any ongoing illegal constructions within pond buffer zones to HYDRAA authorities.
It was earlier reported that HYDRAA demolished 52 unauthorised structures at the Full Tank Level in Devender Nagar on August 6, 2024. The agency is also working to tackle encroachments on city lakes in order to restore and protect these critical water bodies.
Formed on July 19, 2024, HYDRAA focuses on disaster management and asset protection across the Telangana Core Urban Region (TCUR). Operating under the MA&UD Department, it collaborates with various agencies to enhance urban resilience and infrastructure management.
