HYDRAA demolishes toddy compound & shops in Ramnagar over encroachment

HYDRAA demolishes Ramnagar encroachment

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on August 30, 2024, conducted a major demolition operation in Manemma Basti, Ramnagar. The operation targeted the removal of illegal structures built on a water channel and a public road, resulting in the demolition of a toddy compound and several shops.

HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath stated that the demolition was prompted by multiple complaints from local residents, who reported that these structures were encroaching on the road and Nala, causing considerable inconvenience. “We received numerous complaints from locals. After verifying these claims, we proceeded with the demolition to address the encroachments,” HYDRAA Chief explained.

The demolition operation was well supported by the local residents, who had long requested the removal of the unauthorised constructions. Vikram Yadav, a local resident, said that the land numbered 1-9-189 was rightfully theirs.

Many residents expressed their satisfaction with HYDRAA’s prompt action, noting that the initiative began within two days of their complaints.

The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Officials confirmed that the demolition and only commercial structures impacted no residential properties were reportedly targeted. The cleared area is expected to restore proper road access and improve stormwater flow in the region.

This demolition followed a surprise inspection by HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath on August 28, 2024. The inspection was conducted on encroachments along the nalla at Manemma Gali in Ramnagar Chowrasta, which had narrowed the road and led to flooding during rains.

Earlier reports indicated that residents had complained about increased flooding due to illegal constructions near the drainage ditch, causing significant hardship. In response, the Commissioner directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to investigate the encroachments, along with Town Planning and Revenue officials, and verify the relevant land documents, which led to demolitions.
