HYDERABAD: After eight years of struggle, relief finally came to Bhavani Nagar layout plot owners in Pocharam when the HYDRAA demolished a wall that had blocked access to their land.

Residents described the move as “freedom for the common man’s plot”, celebrating what they called their “independence day”.

The layout, spread over 27 acres in Survey Nos. 315, 316, and 317 of Pratap Singaram village under Pocharam municipality, was developed in 1978 with about 400 plots. It was originally approved by the village panchayat and later came under municipal limits.

Of the 27 acres, 6.14 acres belonged to Malipeddi Janardhan Reddy. His son, Malipeddi Madhusudhan Reddy, registered it as agricultural land on Dharani, obtained a passbook, and began receiving Rythu Bandhu payments. He later constructed a boundary wall around the land, blocking roads leading to 88 plots.

Plot owners lodged complaints with the revenue department and the district collector, questioning how agricultural status was given to land inside an approved layout. Though the Rythu Bandhu payments were stopped, access to the plots remained blocked.

Following multiple representations, Bhavani Nagar Welfare Association filed a complaint through Hydraa  Prajavani grievance system. An inquiry ordered by Hydraa Commissioner A.V. Ranganath found that the boundary wall had no approval from either the municipality or the former gram panchayat and was obstructing layout roads.

HYDRAA officials, along with revenue and municipal staff, then removed the illegal wall. Plot owners expressed gratitude, saying the action gave them access to their land after years of waiting. They raised slogans in support of the government and Hydraa, calling it their “plot liberation day”.
