News in short:
The Hyderabad Disaster Response Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has begun demolishing an illegal five-storey building in Ayyappa Society, Madhapur. The building was constructed in violation of GHMC notices and Telangana High Court orders. The demolition followed a visit by HYDRAA officials to the site after locals reported continued construction despite legal directives. The builder had been issued a show cause notice and a speaking order by the GHMC, and a court order was issued in April 2024. Despite a partial demolition in June, the builder resumed construction, leading to HYDRAA's intervention. The commissioner expressed concern about the disregard for court orders and directed authorities to take immediate action. In a separate development, HYDRAA will hold a public grievances redressal program on January 6, 2025, where residents can voice their concerns, particularly regarding encroachments of water bodies.
Hydraa Demolishes Illegal Building

Hyderabad: A day after the Hyderabad Disaster Response Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner AV Ranganath inspected an illegal construction site at Ayyappa Society, the Disaster Response Force (DRF) personnel were seen razing an illegal structure in Madhapur on Sunday morning.

The authorities have begun demolishing a five-storey unauthorized building constructed at 100 Feet Road in Ayyappa Society in violation of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) notices and Telangana High Court orders. The five-storey building is being constructed on a 684 square yards plot in Khanamet, Serilingampally.

Following reports from the locals, a team of HYDRAA officials led by Ranganath, along with the officials from the Revenue and GHMC departments visited the under construction structure near the 100 Feet Road.

The illegal structure has been under the watchful eyes of locals and authorities for quite some time. The GHMC had issued a show cause notice to the builder on February 14, 2024. Subsequently, a speaking order was delivered on February 26, 2024. As the construction activity continued, the high court issued an order on April 19, 2024 in response to a writ petition seeking enforcement of the order.

Acting on the legal directive, the civic body partially demolished the building on June 13, 2024. However, the builder resumed the construction activity shortly after which led to the involvement of HYDRAA into the case.

The Commissioner had expressed deep concern over the disregard for court orders and directed the authorities to initiate immediate action in compliance with the courtโ€™s directives in the matter.

HYDRAA to meet public on Monday

HYDRAA, the agency responsible for disaster response and asset protection in Hyderabad, will hold a public grievances redressal programme on January 6, 2025. This program, similar to the GHMC’s Prajavani, will allow residents to directly meet HYDRAA officials and voice their concerns, particularly regarding encroachments of water bodies. The agency aims to resolve these complaints within 10 days.
