HYDRAA defends Eidulakunta restoration with official records
HYDERABAD: HYDRAA has said its decision to protect and restore Eidulakunta was taken only after examining village and revenue records, Survey of India maps, satellite imagery and other official documents. The agency said flood channels linking Thammidikunta to Eidulakunta and outlet channels from Eidulakunta to Sunnam Cheruvu clearly establish that the waterbody is a lake.
The agency said it also carried out repeated field inspections before initiating restoration works. Based on the findings, it fenced the lake to protect it and informed the High Court of the reasons behind the action.
According to official records, Survey No. 07 in Khanamet village of Serilingampally mandal in Ranga Reddy district contains 6.05 acres of Eidulakunta. HYDRAA said it initiated restoration only after verifying all available records.
The agency also recalled that revenue officials wrote to it on May 25 and May 26 seeking protection of 5.06 acres of government land in Survey No. 11/37/A in Khanamet village and requesting the required manpower and machinery. HYDRAA said it erected fencing on May 26 to safeguard the land.
HYDRAA moves High Court
HYDRAA said the High Court, through an interim order dated May 29, directed removal of the fencing erected to protect the 6.05-acre Eidulakunta in Survey No. 07 and the 5.06-acre government land in Survey No. 11/37/A.
The agency said it approached the High Court on June 2 in LPA SR No. 25414/2026 and placed the relevant facts before the court. It rejected reports suggesting that it had not moved the court.
HYDRA said it had also written to the Medchal–Malkajgiri District Collector on May 30 seeking additional records related to the case and is awaiting the information.
The agency said court submissions referred to 13.17 acres in Survey Nos. 1003 to 1006 of Kukatpally village in Kukatpally mandal, Medchal–Malkajgiri district, while the dispute also involves the 6.05-acre Eidulakunta in Survey No. 07 of Khanamet village, Serilingampally mandal. It said officials are required to furnish the relevant records relating to Eidulakunta, and those details will also be submitted to the court.
HYDRA said restoration of lakes is essential for flood management, groundwater recharge and environmental protection. It added that criticism of the agency for vested interests is unjustified, according to the statement issued on Saturday.
