HYDRAA Commissioner inspects illegal constructions at Patancheru Lakes
Hyderabad: As part of its ongoing demolition of encroachments, the Hyderabad Disaster Management and Assets Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner, A.V. Ranganath, conducted an inspection in Patancheru and Ameenpur on Saturday, August 31, 2024. This inspection was part of the agency’s intensified crackdown on illegal constructions.
HYDRAA focused on encroachments around key lakes, including Saki Lake and Ameenpur Lake, where multiple illegal structures have been reported. The commissioner led the inspection.
During his visit to Patancheru, Ranganath examined the situation at Saki Lake, where a real estate company is alleged to have built an apartment complex that obstructs the lake’s natural drainage channels.
A.V. Ranganath also inspected several locations in Ameenpur, including Shambikunta, Bandham Kommu, and Ameenpur Lake. Residents have raised concerns about illegal constructions blocking canals and encroaching on lake areas.
Following the inspection, Ranganath requested a detailed report from officials and confirmed the presence of illegal structures at multiple sites.
In addition to ordering demolitions, criminal cases are also being filed against infrastructure companies and private builders involved in unauthorised constructions on assigned lands, floodplains, and lakebeds.
According to the reports, the Telangana police have registered criminal cases against two entities, named Maps Infra and one private builder, following complaints from revenue officials.
Additionally, six government officials have been charged with overseeing the illegal constructions.
In a separate case, three unauthorised constructions in the Buffer Zone of Erla Cheruvu, Madinaguda, have been identified as violating regulations in Survey No. 25, Vaishali Nagar, Madinaguda.
D. Swarnalatha, the wife of B. Akkiraju, has been charged with carrying out unauthorised constructions in this area.
On Sunday, August 25, HYDRAA released details of its encroachment removal drives, revealing the extent of land recovered so far. The agency’s report, submitted to the Telangana government, highlighted that demolitions were carried out at 18 locations, some involving connections with local politicians and celebrities. Despite these challenges, HYDRAA successfully reclaimed over 43 acres of encroached land and razed the alleged unauthorised structures.
