HYDERABAD: Hydraa on Monday removed encroachments on five acres of government land in Miyapur, located in Serilingampally mandal of Rangareddy district. Officials said attempts to seize the adjoining Makta Mahaboobpet lake bed were also stopped.

According to estimates, the five-acre tract rescued from illegal occupation is valued at more than ₹600 crore. Hydraa removed 18 sheds built over 200 metres along the bund parallel to the Miyapur–Bachupally main road. A parking area being used by private buses behind a line of shops was also cleared.

Hydraa acted on a complaint received through Prajavani, which alleged that shop operators in Survey No. 39 along the Makta Mahaboobpet lake bund were collecting ₹50,000 per month from each shed, amounting to about ₹9 lakh a month. Another ₹8 lakh a month was allegedly collected for allowing private buses to park there.

Commissioner AV Ranganath directed Hydraa to conduct a field inquiry with the concerned departments.

Officials say false survey number used to take possession

During the inquiry, officials found that those involved had created a fictitious Survey No. 44/4 in place of the original Survey No. 44/5, which had earlier been allotted for mining. A car-washing centre had been set up, and the entire parcel was taken over using the false survey number.

The government had declined a request to extend the mining lease. Despite this, the encroachers reportedly continued to occupy the land. Officials noted that the Serilingampally tahsildar had issued notices in 2013 and removed the sheds at that time.

Encroachers collected lakhs each month, inquiry finds

Hydraa identified Koona Satyam Goud and Bandari Ashok Mudiraj as the principal encroachers, and officials indicated that influential persons were backing them. Those claiming ownership could not produce any documents and instead said they had agreements with unnamed parties. Authorities said the identities of those individuals were yet to be established.

Hydraa has now erected fencing around the five-acre parcel of government land. It has also prevented fresh attempts to encroach on the adjacent five-acre lake bed.
