HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath inspecting Kamuni Cheruvu in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner AV Ranganath on Wednesday inspected several lakes across the city following complaints from residents about sewage inflow and mosquito menace.

Sewage diversion, STPs planned for affected lakes

Ranganath visited Kamuni Cheruvu, located along the Bharatnagar–Khaitlapur–Hi-Tech City Road, where locals flagged foul smell and mosquito breeding due to sewage entering the waterbody. After examining the lake’s inlets and outlets, he ordered the immediate start of development works.

HYDRAA has also taken up the development of Turka Cheruvu near Bandari Layout in Nizampet, where similar issues were reported. The commissioner said the entire 43.50 acres of the lake would be developed. Sewage will be diverted, silt removed and beautification works undertaken. Sewage Treatment Plants will be installed to prevent untreated wastewater from mixing with the lake.

CSR-backed lake development

HYDRAA said Bhavya Constructions has taken up the development of Ellamma Kunta on the Ushamullapudi Road connecting Kukatpally and Jeedimetla as part of a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.

Phone-in grievance programme launched

On the same day, HYDRAA launched a phone-in public grievance programme. Residents can speak to the commissioner every Saturday between 12 pm and 1 pm, except on holidays.

Citizens within the Outer Ring Road limits can call 040-29565750 or 040-29565759 to report encroachments on lakes, parks, roads and public lands, illegal dumping of soil in lakes, and to follow up on pending complaints.
