HYDRAA chief visits Ameenpur after complaints of lake submerging plots

Hyderabad: Lately, the Ameenpur municipality has been in the news for the demolition of illegal structures by the authorities of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA). The agency’s Commissioner, AV Ranganath, visited the Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu after residents complained about encroachments.
Several residents whose dwellings were razed during the demolition exercise are not happy with the officials for a reason, while others have complained to the HYDRAA authorities that their plots were submerged by the lake water of Ameenpur Pedda Cheruvu. The owners of land parcels have claimed that the full tank level (FTL) is 93.15 acres, but the lake water covers an area of 460 acres, including their plots.
The landholders have attributed the spread of lake water to the closure of the lake’s weir and sluice by the irrigation officials a few years ago. As a result, thousands of plots are inundated. Notably, the Ameenpur lake is a biodiversity site, as the water body is visited by 300 bird species.
After concluding his inspection, the HYDRAA chief told reporters that the agency would initiate a time-bound inquiry into the concerns raised by the municipality’s residents. He also assured the people that the officials would thoroughly verify the area of the Pedda Cheruvu in the official records.
