Hydraa Begins De Watering At Hyderabad Lakes, Restoration Set For June 2025

Hyderabad: A.V. Ranganath, Chairman of the Lake Protection Committee and HYDRAA Commissioner visited several lakes in the city on Friday, February 28, 2025, to review the progress of lake restoration and beautification works.

During his visit, Ranganath assured that the government would assist those who have lost their land in the buffer zones of the lakes through the TDR (Transfer of Development Rights) scheme.

As part of HYDRAA’s first phase, the Commissioner inspected six lakes, including Sunnam Cheruvu, Tammidikunta Lake, Kukatpally Nalla Cheruvu, Uppal Nalla Cheruvu, and Bum-Rukn-ud-Daula Lake.

Ranganath encouraged local communities to support the lake restoration efforts, highlighting that the state government is prioritizing these projects. He noted that HYDRAA, in collaboration with other government departments, is leading the efforts to restore and beautify the lakes.

The Commissioner reassured residents that no homes would be demolished during the restoration process. “There is no need for concern, as existing houses will not be affected,” he said.

The restoration of the lakes, including Sunnam Cheruvu, Tammidikunta, Kukatpally Nalla Cheruvu, Uppal Nalla Cheruvu, Bum-Rukn-ud-Daula Lake in Rajendranagar, and Bathukamma Kunta, is part of the first phase of the project. The total investment for this phase is approximately Rs. 58.50 crore.

Currently, de-watering operations are underway at the lakes, with wastewater being drained and the lakes dried as part of the restoration process. HYDRAA aims to complete the works by June 2025.

Ranganath also reviewed the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and design concepts for the restoration, developed by Vimos Technocrats, to assess the progress of the project. The updates were shared via HYDRAA’s official social media handle.
