HYDERABAD: HYDRAA on Saturday reclaimed two encroached parks in Kukatpally, securing open spaces spread over 3,000 sq yards. Officials said the market value of the protected land is estimated at ₹35 crore.

The action followed a complaint filed by the residents’ welfare association of Bhagyanagar Phase-3 colony to Prajavani, alleging encroachment of two designated park sites in the layout.

Acting on the directions of A V Ranganath, HYDRAA officials, along with officials from concerned departments, conducted a field inspection. Records showed that the Bhagyanagar Phase-3 layout, approved by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority in 1987, spans 36 acres across Survey Nos. 197 and 200s and comprises 357 plots.

The inspection found that nearly half of a 2,000-sq-yard park had been encroached upon, while about 1,000 sq yards of another park spread over one acre had also been taken over. Based on the report, officials removed the encroachments on Saturday.

HYDRA subsequently erected fencing around both park sites and installed boards identifying them as park land. Local residents thanked the agency for protecting green spaces that serve as vital lung areas for the neighbourhood.
