HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has launched citywide fire safety awareness programmes to prevent fire accidents in the city.

The initiative follows a recent fire at a furniture showroom in Nampally and several other incidents reported across Hyderabad. HYDRAA said the campaign aims to alert residents and commercial establishments to the risks posed by violations of fire safety norms.

During recent inspections, authorities found widespread non-compliance with fire safety regulations. In response, HYDRAA decided to conduct large-scale awareness programmes while giving establishments a one-month deadline to strictly implement mandatory fire safety measures.

Officials explained precautions to prevent fire accidents and outlined steps to control fires if they occur. The sessions focused on methods to minimise loss of life and property.

Demonstrations were held on the use of fire extinguishers, the functioning of automatic water sprinklers, and the role of smoke detectors. In several locations, fire mock drills were also conducted.

The awareness programmes were organised in areas including Panjagutta, Narsingi, Mettuguda, Karwan, Shapur Nagar, A S Rao Nagar, Chandanagar, RTC Cross Roads, Uppal, Begumpet, Chandrayangutta, Santosh Nagar, Jubilee Hills Road No. 45, Lakdikapul, Madhapur, Sanathnagar, Rethibowli Cross Roads, Nagarjuna Circle, Gachibowli–Miyapur, Dilsukhnagar, Alwal, Badangpet, Alkapuri Cross Roads, Attapur, Banjara Hills, Clock Tower Circle, ECIL, Kompally, Nampally, Shamshabad, Pedda Amberpet, Bachupally and Toomkunta.
