HYDERABAD: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath on Friday assured residents of MS Makta and BS Makta, near Hussain Sagar opposite Raj Bhavan in Khairtabad, that the agency will not demolish houses belonging to poor families.

Interacting with residents during a visit to the localities, Ranganath said the state government’s policy was not to target poor people’s homes. He urged residents not to believe what he described as false propaganda claiming that houses falling within the Full Tank Level (FTL) limits of Hussain Sagar would be demolished by HYDRAA.

He said some encroachers were misleading residents for their own interests by spreading rumours that HYDRA had issued demolition notices. He also alleged that innocent people were being instigated to stage protests at the Necklace Road MMTS station. Legal action would be taken against those responsible for spreading misinformation and provoking protests, he said.

Existing houses need not worry, commissioner says

Ranganath said he had visited the area to remove confusion and reassure residents. He said people living in houses that existed before the formation of HYDRAA need not worry, as the government had no intention of demolishing such dwellings.

He cited the rejuvenation of Batukamma Kunta in Amberpet, where existing residential settlements within the FTL limits were not disturbed. Referring to Ramantapur Pedda Cheruvu, he said poor families living in huts had been relocated and recommended for allotment of double-bedroom houses.

Residents express relief after interaction

Residents said they were relieved after the commissioner’s clarification. They welcomed his visit and said his assurance that HYDRAA would not target poor people’s homes had removed uncertainty over their future.
