Hyderguda Dark Streets After Ganesh Chaturthi

Hyderabad: Residents across Hyderabad are voicing their frustration over the lack of functioning streetlights, calling on the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to resolve the issue promptly.

Dinesh V. Rochiramani, a resident near Doshi Crest Apartment in Hyderguda, shared his experience with Hyderabad Mail, stating, “After the Ganesh Chaturthi festival last night, no streetlights were working in my lane. Only one streetlight is functional, and the road’s poor condition is causing immense inconvenience.”

Concerns are also being voiced on social media. Human rights activist Vinay Vangala tagged GHMC officials and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), expressing his disappointment. “Here also, our tax money is spent making them glow in the day but not at night! @CommissionrGHMC, we citizens and taxpayers have been suffering for months without your response. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy needs your intervention.”

Another citizen, Koushik, expressed his feelings, stating, “These lights are glowing in the daytime, but the roads are pitch dark at night.”

As of now, there has been no official response from GHMC authorities regarding the complaints.

However, the GHMC has recently launched an open tender for the supply and delivery of 15,500 new LED streetlights, a significant initiative to improve street lighting across the city. This tender was announced on September 13, 2024, and will be managed through an online bidding process.

The contract, with an internal benchmark of Rs. 298.72 lakhs (exclusive of taxes), requires the delivery of the lights within one month of agreement. Bidders must submit an Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of Rs. 2,98,720, representing 1% of the benchmark cost. Additionally, a transaction fee of Rs. 8,962 plus GST @ 18% is applicable.
