Hyderabad: Dabeerpura youth held for robbing man on gay dating app

In a similar incident, five youths, including Syed Fahad Ali, were arrested by Mirchowk police for robbing a man after befriending him on Grindr. Fahad, using a Grindr account, arranged a meeting with the victim and, with the help of his accomplices, robbed him at knifepoint, forcing him to withdraw Rs 40,000 from an ATM. The police recovered cash, vehicles, and mobile phones from the suspects. These incidents highlight the growing concern of online dating app-related crimes and underscore the need for heightened awareness and caution when using such platforms.
Hyderabad Youth Arrested For Robbery Through Grindr App

Hyderabad: In yet another case of anti-socials allegedly manipulating the Grindr dating app, a young man from Old City of Hyderabad looted a man after meeting him on the popular free dating app for LGBTQ Community members. Subsequently, he was arrested by the Film Nagar police.

According to reports, the accused, identified as a 25-year-old Farhan Baig of Dabeerpura, signed up on ‘Grindr’, the dating app meant for LGBTQ people and befriended him. After a few online conversations, he invited his 22-year-old new friend to a house at Film Nagar last week.

When the victim turned up to meet his ‘Grindr’ friend, Farhan took advantage of the situation and forced him to transfer Rs. 10,000 to his e-wallet. With no choice left, the victim paid the amount demanded by him and returned to his place.

Subsequently, he approached the police to file a complaint. The police registered a case against Farhan and arrested him.

Last week, Mirchowk police apprehended five youth for luring a man and robbing him after befriending him on ‘Grindr’ app. The arrested individuals were students and identified as Syed Fahad Ali (22), a supervisor, Mohd Tauheeduddin (22), Syed Roumaanullah Hussaini, (21), Mohd Abdul Rauf (22) and Mohd Shoaib Khan (20).

According to Sneha Mehra, DCP (South), Fahad created an account of Grindr and got in touch with the victim, who is a resident of Dabeerpura. After befriending him, Fahad called him to a certain place under Mirchowk police station limits area on January 19. When the victim reached the designated place, Fahad and his accomplices, who were waiting for him, threatened him with a knife and forced him to withdraw Rs 40,000 from an ATM centre and robbed him at knifepoint.

Based on a complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused persons. The police also recovered Rs. 18,500 cash, two-wheelers and mobile phones from their possession.
