Telangana finalises plan for Y-shaped flyover
HYDERABAD: A detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared for a Y-shaped flyover in Hyderabad’s traffic-heavy core city, connecting Nampally and Lakdikapul via the rear side of the Assembly.
The state government has already given the green signal for the flyover to be built behind the Assembly. The proposed 1.450-km structure is being designed as a three-lane, one-way flyover for traffic moving from Nampally towards Lakdikapul.
Flyover aims to ease Nampally-Lakdikapul traffic congestion
The Nampally-Lakdikapul stretch witnesses heavy traffic congestion. The problem persists even at night because of the movement of heavy vehicles.
There are three traffic signals along the route, including one free-left turn. Traffic congestion is common on the stretch throughout the day, irrespective of whether vehicles are stopped at signals.
The situation becomes more difficult for motorists when traffic restrictions are imposed during Assembly sessions. The state government has therefore decided to build a flyover on the stretch.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is preparing the DPR for the project.
Proposed flyover passes behind Assembly along railway line
The proposed flyover will begin in front of Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University in Nampally, pass over Public Gardens and run behind the Assembly along the railway line.
As it approaches Lakdikapul, the flyover will pass over the railway line. The 1.450-km stretch is being designed as a three-lane, one-way facility.
At Lakdikapul, the flyover will split into two arms. One arm will connect with the existing flyover towards Masab Tank.
