HYDERABAD: Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Sunday inaugurated the prestigious 60th World Golf Championship in Hyderabad marking the first time India is hosting the event.

The week-long championship features 180 Rotary golfers from 24 countries, organised by the Rotary Club International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians (IGFR) in collaboration with local tourism bodies. The tournament aims to raise awareness on maternal and child health programmes while promoting golf as a global sport.

Matches are being held at Hyderabad Golf Club, Boulder Hills Golf & Country Club, and the Vooty Golf County. The championship is also designed to highlight India’s tourism appeal, with participants being taken on visits to landmarks such as Falaknuma Palace and Golconda Fort.
