Hyderabad woman seeks hearing in Supreme Court
Hyderabad : A woman petitioner from Hyderabad broke down in the Supreme Court on Monday, saying her family has been suffering for 15 years and urging the court to hear her case.
Appearing during the mentioning, she told Chief Justice Justice Surya Kant that her family was living “like the living dead” and struggling to meet basic needs. “For 15 years, we have been living like corpses. Our families are destroyed. We cannot even feed or educate our children,” she said.
Petitioner recounts prolonged hardship before court
She said she had travelled from Hyderabad to argue her case in person. “I came here so that my pain reaches your heart. Nothing is more important for a woman than her mangalsutra. Look at what remains on my neck now,” she said, removing it in court and turning emotional.
The case relates to the sale of Sahara assets. Responding to her plea, Justice Surya Kant advised her not to incur travel expenses and to attend hearings online. “Do not waste money travelling to the Supreme Court. You can appear online. We will hear your arguments at length. A decision will be taken after hearing both sides,” he said.
Court sets up special bench for next hearing
The petitioner declined the suggestion, saying nothing was more important than her case and that she would continue to appear in person. Following this, the Chief Justice announced that a special bench would be constituted next week to hear the matter.
He said the case would be listed at the top of the board and would be taken up by the special bench.
