How a Delayed Saree Delivery Led to a Cyber Fraud

HYDERABAD: A woman from Venkatagiri in Jubilee Hills lost ₹37,447 to cyber fraudsters after clicking on a fake refund link sent following an online saree purchase.
Saree Order Leads to Refund Fraud
According to police, the woman, a resident of Venkatagiri on Road No. 10 in Jubilee Hills, ordered a saree after seeing an advertisement on an Instagram page. When the saree was not delivered, she contacted the seller for an update.
Fraudsters Send Fake Refund Link
Soon after, she received a refund link from a person claiming to represent Hyderabad Silk Sarees. Believing it to be genuine, she clicked on the link.
Within minutes, money was transferred from her bank account without her authorisation.
Police Register Case
The victim immediately blocked her SIM card after realising the fraud. However, cyber criminals had already withdrawn ₹37,447 from her account.
Police at the Jubilee Hills police station registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
