Hyderabad police book 800 for drunk driving

HYDERABAD: Police booked more than 800 people for drunk driving during special weekend enforcement drives across the city.

Hyderabad Traffic Police caught 403 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol. Of them, eight were found with blood alcohol content exceeding 300 micrograms per 100 millilitres, against the permissible limit of 30 micrograms.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D Joel Davis said the city police were following a zero-tolerance approach towards drunk driving.
Cyberabad registers 409 cases
Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 409 cases. Miyapur reported the highest number with 81 cases, followed by Chevella with 44 and Shamshabad with 34.
Most of those caught were two-wheeler riders. Police said people aged between 31 and 40 accounted for more than one-third of the offenders.
Officials said similar enforcement drives would continue across Cyberabad to prevent road accidents. Checks will be intensified during weekends and the festive season, they added.
