Wedding season resumes in Hyderabad from February 19

HYDERABAD: Wedding ceremonies are set to resume across the Telugu states after a three-month lull, with auspicious wedding dates beginning February 19. The break since November was due to Moudyami (inauspicious period), which ended on January 17.
With the return of favourable dates, households have begun wedding preparations. Marriage halls are expected to be busy again with weddings and receptions after a prolonged pause.
February sees high demand for wedding dates
According to traditional almanacs, February 19, 20, 21, 24, 25 and 26 are considered auspicious for weddings. The dates February 19, 20 and 21 are also favourable for housewarming ceremonies.
Priests said February 21 has emerged as the most sought-after date as it falls on Panchami, regarded as a highly auspicious day, and also coincides with a weekend.
Service providers’ schedules fully booked
Priests said auspicious wedding dates continue through March, April, May, June and July, leading to heavy demand for wedding-related services. As a result, the schedules of priests, caterers and wedding planners are fully booked.
Parents of prospective brides and grooms said they are struggling to find available function halls. Even where halls are available, rates have increased sharply.
One parent said priests who earlier charged between ₹25,000 and ₹60,000 per wedding are now quoting ₹40,000 to ₹80,000. Function halls that earlier cost around ₹10 lakh are now being offered at no less than ₹13 lakh. Decoration and catering costs have also risen significantly.
He said the rush for February 21 in particular has pushed demand and prices higher.
