Imd Predicts Light To Moderate Rain And Thunderstorms For Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Meteorological Centre, Hyderabad, has issued a rain, thunderstorm, and lightning warning for the period between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on April 18, 2025.

A yellow alert has been issued for the affected districts, which are expected to experience light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts reaching speeds of 41-61 km/h.

The districts at risk include Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Rajanna, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Nagarkurnool, Medchal, Hyderabad, and surrounding areas. The expected impact is minor damage to unsecured structures.

The suggested action is for residents to monitor the weather closely and move to safer locations if necessary.

Telangana Weatherman (@balaji_25t) provided additional insights, stating that severe thunderstorms and hailstorms are expected across the east, west, and central districts of Telangana later this afternoon through midnight. Strong winds will accompany the storms, which are forecasted to be more intense than the previous two days.

In Hyderabad, scattered intense storms and isolated hail showers are expected in the evening and night. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.

Rain Safety Tips:

1. Avoid Driving in Heavy Rain: Stay off the roads if possible. Heavy rain reduces visibility and increases the risk of accidents.

2. Stay Indoors: Avoid going outside during heavy rain and thunderstorms. Lightning and strong winds pose serious risks.

3. Keep Away from Flooded Areas: Do not walk or drive through flooded streets or rivers. Just six inches of moving water can knock you off your feet.

4. Check Your Roof and Drains: Clear debris from your roof, gutters, and drains to prevent leaks or flooding.

5. Wear Appropriate Clothing: If you must go outside, wear waterproof gear and sturdy footwear to stay dry and avoid slipping.

Residents are urged to remain alert and prepared for changing weather conditions.
