Hyderbadis used 580 million gallons of water per day supplied through tankers
Hyderabad:Hyderbadis used a whooping 580 million gallons of water per day supplied through tankers which is 20 million gallons per day more compared to the last year’s water supply by the Hyderabad water board. And it is the highest quantity of water supplied through tankers in the history of Hyderabad ever revealed data from Hyderabad metropolitan water supply and sewerage board(HMWS&SB).
Last year, due to lack of rains, the underground water level in Hyderabad dried up. This resulted in the demand for water from the month of February even before the start of summer from March.
The people of the areas who depended on Bore water in turn had to depend on the water board which supplies drinking water to Hyderabad. Particularly in some areas where more than 30 thousand people are completely dependent on tankers it became a humongous task for the water board to supply water through tanks. In addition to that, the tankers supplied by the water board saw a heavy booking.
The water board was on toes since there is a surge in the demand for water from the consumers. But as the demand increased day by day, the water board was forced to supply water sufficient for 2-3 days at a go through water tankers. There are instances where people had to bear the burnt due to delay in water supply.
Water sourced from Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir and Yellampalli reservoir
Telangana Chief minister(CM)Revanth Reddy conducted several reviews with the higher officials of the water board and ordered to take steps to deliver the tanks within 24 hours.
HMWS&SB MD C Sudarshan Reddy continuously monitored the situation. Starting with the field level staff, a series of reviews were conducted with the senior officials of the water board and special measures were taken.
Explaining the various measures taken by the Water board to ensure that water tanker is delivered within 24 hours of booking MD Sudarshan Reddy said, “We took measures like sourcing water from Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir and Yellampalli reservoir, increasing number of water takers and water filling points, established special tanker management cell and monitor the tankers filling through a especially designed app”.
He further added on similar lines with the food delivery app water board designed an app where the consumers who booked the tanker can monitor the movement of the tanker. This app is already being implemented and tested experimentally in many filling stations. He further reiterated that within 24 hours of water tanker bookings, water is supplied to the consumers.
