Hyderabad water supply gets major boost with reservoir interlinking plan

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) managing director K. Ashok Reddy has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive plan to interlink major water reservoirs.
The proposed network will connect sources such as Krishna, Godavari, Manjeera and Osman Sagar. The plan aims to ensure an alternative water supply if any reservoir or main pipeline faces a shutdown.
Ashok Reddy inspects Khajaguda pipeline junction
Ashok Reddy inspected the newly completed 900 mm-diameter pipeline junction at Khajaguda X Roads on Saturday. He directed officials to examine the possibility of extending Godavari water supply up to Prasasan Nagar.
He said the system should allow the Water Board to switch to another source when a reservoir or main pipeline is shut down. This could help reduce disruptions to the city’s water supply during emergencies.
Relevant general managers, deputy general managers, managers and Water Board staff attended the inspection. CMC officials also participated.
