Telangana voters must secure place in SIR-2026 roll
HYDERABAD: Voters who are putting off filling the enumeration form under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls could face difficulties in the future, officials said.
The SIR-2026 electoral roll is expected to become an important reference for new voter registrations and future revision exercises. Officials said voters should ensure that their names are included in the SIR-2026 roll to avoid problems for future generations seeking voter identity cards.
Missing 2002 records complicate enumeration process for voters
The ongoing revision process links voter details with the SIR-2002 electoral roll. Several people are facing difficulties in filling the forms because neither their names nor those of their parents appear in the 2002 roll.
Those unable to provide these details while filling the forms will later have to produce one of the identity documents specified by the Election Commission of India.
Awareness among voters about the SIR exercise was limited in 2002, and many did not give it due importance. Their children are now facing difficulties as a result, officials said.
They advised voters to ensure that their names are included in the SIR-2026 roll so that future generations do not face difficulties in obtaining voter identity cards.
New voter registration now linked to SIR details
Normally, a person seeking registration as a new voter must fill Form 6 and submit proof of the current residential address and an identity document. With the SIR exercise under way in the state, new voter registration has also been linked to SIR details.
Along with Form 6, applicants must submit a declaration containing details linked to the SIR-2002 roll. As with the current enumeration form, the declaration requires details of one family member from among the applicant’s parents or grandparents.
Officials said the same procedure could continue for new voter registrations in the future.
Many people whose names are on electoral rolls in other states now live in Telangana. Those seeking to shift their vote to Telangana by submitting Form 8 must also provide a declaration containing SIR details.
Officials said the vote would be transferred from one state to another only after the required declaration is submitted.
