Hyderabad voter mapping reaches 37.53%

HYDERABAD: Pre-special intensive revision (pre-SIR) of electoral rolls is progressing rapidly across Hyderabad district, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting door-to-door voter mapping and verification.
According to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) election wing officials, nearly 37.53% voter mapping has been completed across the 15 Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad district. Of the total 46.84 lakh voters, details of around 17.58 lakh voters have been verified so far.
Officials said voter verification is progressing faster in some Assembly constituencies while remaining slow in others. Bahadurpura recorded the highest mapping percentage at 47.45%, followed by Chandrayangutta and Yakutpura. Secunderabad Cantonment registered the lowest at 31.18%.
The district has 42 polling booths, with each booth covering between 800 and 1,400 voters. Booth-level staff are collecting voter details in the field.
Officials compare 2002 and 2024 electoral rolls
Election officials said the Election Commission launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise to prepare a clean electoral roll and strengthen the democratic process. The exercise was conducted earlier in 2002 and 2004.
As part of the ongoing process, officials are comparing the 2002 electoral rolls with the 2024 voter list. BLOs are verifying whether voters or their family members were present in the older electoral records.
Verification is being carried out through a dedicated SIR mobile application using EPIC identity numbers, names and addresses. Officials said voters who had voting rights anywhere in the country in 2002 could be linked to the present location with their consent.
An election official said family mapping is also being done using records of parents and grandparents.
Documents required for voters missing in old rolls
Officials said voters whose names are absent in the 2002 electoral rolls must submit any of the 13 approved identity documents, including government-issued identity cards, bank passbooks and pattadar passbooks related to land ownership.
Women below 40 years of age who are married have been advised to complete mapping using the details of their parents.
GHMC has reportedly set a target of completing at least 50% voter mapping during the pre-SIR exercise.
Schedule likely this month or in June
Officials said the schedule for the SIR exercise in Telangana may be announced later this month or in June. BLOs are expected to conduct field verification for three to four weeks after the notification.
A draft electoral roll will then be published, followed by a period for objections and complaints. After scrutiny of claims and objections over a month, the final electoral roll will be released.
Officials said notices would be issued to voters whose mapping remains incomplete after the schedule is announced. They warned that voters who fail to complete the process may not find their names in the electoral rolls.
District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan appealed to citizens to cooperate with BLOs visiting their homes. Officials said help desks have also been set up and citizens can approach Electoral Registration Officer offices for assistance.
