Hyderabad: VC Sajjanar urges public to avoid betting apps, warns of serious consequences

Hyderabad: VC Sajjanar, Senior IPS Officer and Managing Director of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), has issued a strong warning against the rising promotion of betting apps and the dangers associated with them.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sajjanar criticized influencers who promote these apps, claiming they offer an easy path to wealth without effort. He pointed out that some of these influencers falsely advertise that by using the app, users can win rewards such as an iPhone, a car, or gold jewelry.

Sajjanar highlighted the deceptive nature of such claims, questioning why influencers push these apps despite the severe consequences they bring. He highlighted that while these influencers boast of making millions, many people are instead falling victim to betting addiction, suffering financial losses, and, in some cases, even resorting to suicide.
In his post, Sajjanar warned the public not to be misled by such influencers and advised them not to jeopardize their futures for short-term gains.
The officer tagged the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre and the Prime Minister’s Office in his post.
Following Sajjanar’s previous post on ‘X,’ Vizag City Police arrested a local social media influencer for promoting a betting app. In a subsequent post, Sajjanar described the arrest as setting an important precedent for others promoting illegal betting apps and urged the public to stay alert and cautious.
