Hyderabad IAS aspirant among 3 dead in Delhi UPSC coaching institute tragedy
Hyderabad: In a tragic incident that unfolded in Delhi’s private Indian Administrative Services(IAS) coaching institute on Saturday that claimed three lives of civil services aspirants, one of the victims is reportedly from Hyderabad. According to the sources, the victim is identified as a 25 year old Tania Soni hailing from Hyderabad in Telangana.
It is to be noted that three students who were availing coaching at the Rau’s IAS academy for the Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) examinations in New Delhi’s Rajendra Nagar institute. The aspirants lost their lives after they were struck for more than four hours, as the water gushed into the basement of the building.
Revealing further details about this case, the Rajendranagar Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi, M Harsh Vardhan released a video statement on X. “In the unfortunate incident took place in the basement of a coaching center in Old #RajinderNagar, 3 students were trapped and, unfortunately, lost their lives. @DCPCentralDelhi M. Harsha Vardhan’s byte regarding the incident and multi-agency rescue operations.”

Further in the video, the DCP said that following rescue operations, they have recovered three bodies trapped in the water and have informed their families about the unfortunate incident. And adding details about the identification of the victims, DCP said, “Shreya Yadav from Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, Tania Soni from Telangana and Navin from Ernakulam in Kerala are identified and families were informed.”
The Delhi police further added that they have registered an First Information Report in this case under relevant sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Samitha (BNS). Further, the coaching center owner and co-ordinator were also detained in this case.
The news has enraged the nation, as it took the lives of three innocent people who were in Delhi from various states to get coaching in Delhi’s coaching institutes. A netizen said, “Today’s tragedy in Delhi with the basement flooding is the symbol of rampant corruption, unsafe buildings, no drainage systems, let us not forget that every street makes a nation. Today’s news is deeply anguishing and just sad for the entire nation and humanity.”
