Massive mosquito swarm in Hyderabad’s Uppal leaves residents alarmed

Hyderabad Mosquito Swarm

HYDERABAD: A woman in Hyderabad was surprised when she saw what looked like smoke above the trees, but it was actually a massive swarm of mosquitoes. This event is raising concerns about the escalating mosquito infestation in the Uppal area. The video, posted on social media, has attracted widespread attention and led to renewed calls for urgent vector control measures.

Instagram user Monica Juyal, who lives in Uppal, shared a video of what she saw. Initially, she thought there was a fire nearby. However, after watching the dark shapes over the trees for a few minutes, she realized they were not flames, but thousands of mosquitoes flying in tight groups. As a result, these swarms made the sky look smoky in the evening. The video showed many swarms moving in waves above the trees and covering them, which was a dramatic sight.

In her video, Juyal explained that there is a lake nearby where construction for a new park is happening. She was worried that the building work could be upsetting the lake’s environment and making it easier for mosquitoes to breed. Consequently, this may have led to more mosquitoes in the area. She asked the government and city officials to start mosquito control, like fogging and using chemicals to kill larvae. Subsequently, she said that building managers had already requested these mosquito control steps, and she hoped the problem would be fixed soon.

The video was called “Mosquito attack in Hyderabad.” Many people on social media were shocked by the size of the swarm. For example, some thought there could be fewer dragonflies, which are natural enemies of mosquitoes, or that the swarms were part of mosquito mating. Meanwhile, this happened while cases of dengue are rising in the city, and many areas still have a lot of mosquitoes even after people have complained to health officials.

Residents have asked the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation to increase mosquito control, especially using fogging, spraying insecticides, and killing mosquito larvae. They want these steps to be taken near water bodies and construction sites to stop the spread of diseases like dengue, chikungunya, and malaria.
