Hyderabad University tops central universities in Asia rankings

HYDERABAD: The University of Hyderabad has secured a top position in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2026, emerging as the leading institution among central universities in India.
The university retained its standing in the global academic and research space, ranking in the 251–300 band among 929 universities across 36 countries. It also featured among the top 20 Indian institutions in the latest rankings.
Strong academic and research performance
Key indicators such as a high faculty-student ratio, significant number of PhD graduates, and academic rigour contributed to the university’s performance. The institution scored high in teaching, research environment, academic reputation, and publications in international journals.
Research in chemistry and life sciences, along with global citation impact, played a major role in strengthening its position. The university also recorded steady growth in industry income through consultancy and patent filings.
Telangana institutions ranking
Among institutions in Telangana, the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT Hyderabad), located in Gachibowli, secured the top position in the Times rankings, while the University of Hyderabad ranked second.
The university continues to attract diverse talent and strengthen its global academic presence.
