Inside the Hyderabad IPS Trainee Harassment Case

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police have taken trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officer M Uday Krishna Reddy into custody after registering a case over allegations of sexually harassing a fellow IPS probationer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), senior police officers said.
Complaint details harassment, assault and blackmail allegations
According to the complaint filed on July 18, both the complainant and the accused were IPS probationers at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad. The woman alleged that the harassment began on June 23 and continued for several weeks.
She alleged that Reddy sent her sexually abusive messages on WhatsApp and made derogatory remarks about her in front of other trainee officers.
The complainant also alleged that Reddy repeatedly accused her of being in a relationship with another trainee without any basis.
She further claimed that he forced her to unlock her mobile phone, accessed her private messages, and blackmailed her by demanding to see her personal chats.
Woman trainee alleges assault and intimidation
The woman alleged that on July 9, Reddy restrained her, forced her into his room, grabbed her by the hair, and tried to strangulate her.
“He restrained my movement, forced me into his room, grabbed me by my hair, and tried to strangulate me,” the complaint stated.
She also alleged that he held a knife to her neck and stopped her from leaving the room. According to the complaint, he assaulted her again on July 10.
The complainant further alleged that Reddy secretly recorded a private video without her consent and sent it to her husband to blackmail her.
“He recorded a private video without my consent or knowledge and sent it to my husband to blackmail me. He also tried to tarnish my image by spreading false and degrading information,” the complaint alleged.
Hyderabad police later registered an FIR and took Reddy into custody.
Accused denies allegations
Reddy denied all the allegations against him.
In an Instagram post after the FIR was registered, he wrote, “The complaint and rumours against me are baseless and untrue. I fully trust the legal process and believe justice will prevail.”
Before joining the IPS, Reddy served as a constable in the Andhra Pradesh Police. He resigned in 2019 and later cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination. His journey from constable to IPS officer attracted widespread attention after his success in the 2024 UPSC examination. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had also congratulated him on the achievement.
