Hyderabad Traffic Police book 21,713 wrong side driving cases

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic Police has booked 21,713 cases against motorists for wrong-side driving during a special enforcement drive conducted in the first week of February 2026.
Special drive targets major road safety violation
The drive was conducted from February 2 to February 9 as part of sustained efforts to improve road safety and reduce fatalities caused by traffic violations, officials said.
Wrong-side driving has emerged as a frequent and hazardous offence in Hyderabad, leading to congestion and posing risks to both violators and law-abiding commuters. Police said the violation creates confusion and obstruction for motorists and remains a major cause of road accidents.
Violators booked under Motor Vehicles Act
All cases were registered under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, police said, adding that enforcement would continue alongside regular traffic regulation.
The traffic police is also conducting education and awareness programmes to sensitise commuters about traffic rules and road safety. Citizens are being reached through social media platforms to promote responsible driving behaviour.
Motorists were urged to avoid wrong-side driving as it endangers lives. Vigilant citizens can report traffic violations through the official social media handles of the Hyderabad Traffic Police or via the Traffic Helpline (9010203626) and the e-Challan helpdesk (8712661690).
