Hyderabad Traffic Police Launch Drive To Seize Vehicles With Over 10 Pending Challans

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad traffic police have launched a special enforcement drive against vehicle owners with more than 10 pending challans. As part of the operation, police teams will visit the residences of such owners to collect dues and issue notices. Vehicles found with repeated violations may face immediate seizure, officials said.

Traffic officials from the tri-commissionerates Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda said the initiative aims to ensure accountability and clear a large backlog of unpaid fines that has weakened road safety enforcement. Private travel bus operators and two-wheeler riders are among those targeted under the drive.

A senior officer said, “We are identifying vehicles with multiple challans through our database and will act firmly against habitual offenders. Our goal is to improve compliance with traffic rules and reduce accidents.”

Crackdown prompted by recent accident

The intensified action follows the recent Kurnool accident involving the Vemuri Kaveri bus, which had unpaid challans amounting to ₹40,000. The mishap prompted coordination between traffic police and road transport authority (RTA) officials to segregate challan data by vehicle category and operator.

Officials said the focus will be on vehicles that have repeatedly ignored e-challan notifications. The police urged citizens to check their challan status through official portals and settle dues promptly to avoid seizure.
