Hyderabad: The Hyderabad traffic police have booked a total of 1,275 cases against minors and initiated the cancellation of registration certificates of 35 vehicles.

The action comes following a special drive against minors driving vehicles conducted between April 5 and 22, 2025. Due to the cancellation of registration certificates, the vehicle owners will not be able to drive their two-wheelers for a period of one year.

Furthermore, minors who were caught while driving will not be eligible to obtain a driving licence till they reach 25 years of age.

According to the Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, if a minor is caught driving, the vehicle registration will be cancelled for 12 months. Additionally, the parent or vehicle owner may also be penalised while the underage drivers will be barred from obtaining a learner’s or driving licence until the age of 25.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad, D Joel Davis said since the start of the special enforcement drive, a total of 1,275 cases have been booked against minors caught driving motor vehicles on city roads.

Meanwhile, the traffic police authorities have requested the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) to cancel the registration certificates of vehicles involved as per the relevant section of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

“We request all the parents and guardians to refrain from allowing their minor children to drive, as it not only endangers their lives but also the lives of other road users,” the official said.
