Hyderabad Traffic Police Book Over 1,000 Cases

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 1,007 cases against vehicles with black-tinted glasses in the last four days, intensifying their crackdown on this violation.

The crackdown targeted motorists who violated Central Motor Vehicle Rule (CMVR) 100 and Sections 177 and 179(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. The motorists were fined up to Rs. 1,000 and directed to remove the tinted film.

The police have declared this initiative, which started on July 8, indefinite. They emphasize the safety concerns associated with black-tinted glasses. Authorities believe these films contribute to traffic accidents, violations, and criminal activities.

According to the Supreme Court of India’s judgment and CMVR 100, car manufacturers must ensure a minimum visual light transmission of 70% for the front and rear windshields and 50% for side windows. Black films entirely contravene this regulation.

Tinted glasses significantly hinder side and rear visibility, posing a significant threat to road safety. Additionally, some car owners use sunshades or curtains, while certain high-end vehicles come equipped with retractable black screens.

The authorities acknowledge a lack of public awareness regarding the illegality of black window films. They have highlighted the unauthorized installation practices of car decor and accessory shops.

The citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report traffic violations to the Hyderabad Traffic Police via their Facebook page or the social media platform ‘X,’ previously known as Twitter. Alternatively, they can reach the Traffic Help Line at 9010203626.
