Hyderabad traffic police book 399 for drunken driving in two-day drive

HYDERABAD:Â Hyderabad Traffic Police booked 399 motorists for drunken driving during a two-day special enforcement drive conducted on January 23 and 24, 2026, as part of efforts to improve road safety in the city.
According to a press note issued on January 25, the drive focused on identifying drivers operating vehicles under the influence of alcohol across various traffic corridors. Of the total offenders, 321 were riding two-wheelers, 31 were driving three-wheelers, while 47 were driving four-wheelers and other vehicles, police said.
Police data showed varying blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels among those booked. As many as 74 drivers recorded BAC levels between 30 and 50 mg, while 156 cases fell in the 51–100 mg range. Another 91 drivers had BAC levels between 101 and 150 mg. Higher intoxication levels were also detected, with 43 cases in the 151–200 mg bracket, 17 cases between 201 and 250 mg, eight cases between 251 and 300 mg, and 10 drivers recording BAC levels above 300 mg.
Hyderabad Traffic Police reiterated that there would be zero tolerance towards drunken driving and said such special enforcement drives would continue in the coming days. Commuters were urged to cooperate with the traffic police in the interest of public safety, the press note added.
