Hyderabad Traffic Police Book 9,142 Free Left Cases

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic Police have registered 9,142 cases in a special drive against free-left violations between February 9 and February 20, 2026.
In a press release issued on February 21, 2026, the police said blocking free-left lanes at junctions was disrupting the natural flow of traffic and leading to congestion and accidents. The drive was launched to improve road safety and regulate traffic in the city.
Fines under Motor Vehicles Act
Officials said motorists who block free-left lanes are being penalised under the Motor Vehicles Act. The enforcement followed reports that vehicles were obstructing designated free-left turns meant to ease movement at intersections.
The police said strict monitoring had been intensified to prevent inconvenience to rule-abiding road users.
Awareness campaign on social media
Alongside enforcement, the department is conducting awareness campaigns through its official social media platforms to promote responsible driving.
The police urged motorists not to block free-left lanes at junctions, warning that such actions increase traffic problems and endanger lives.
