Duped After Advance Payment Hyderabad Man Loses Rs. 1.1l In Online Tools Scam

Hyderabad: A 55-year-old private employee from Hyderabad lost ₹1,17,646 after falling victim to an online scam involving the purchase of industrial tools.

The victim was searching for transmission tools, including a manual joint compressor and spare parts, on the online marketplace IndiaMART when he was contacted via WhatsApp by individuals claiming to represent “US Enterprises.” They assured him they were regular suppliers of transmission line tools and tackles.

Following this, the victim requested a proforma invoice and received one bearing the number USPI/2025-26/7, dated April 4, 2025. Based on the invoice, he issued a purchase order (PO No.: MI/2025-26/1) dated April 5, 2025, and transferred ₹1,17,646 to the alleged supplier on the same day.

After the payment, the victim repeatedly contacted the supposed suppliers, who responded with false assurances such as, “We are dispatching the materials this evening” and “Tomorrow morning.”

Two weeks ago, the scammers sent fake documents, including a fabricated tax invoice (No.: USRJ/25-26/3), a waybill (No.: 701519025475), and a cargo receipt (No.: 416). More recently, they sent another forged invoice (Tax Invoice No.: USRJ/2025-26/6, dated April 19, 2025) along with a second false waybill (No.: 711521738957).

Despite repeated follow-ups, the materials were never delivered, and the victim has received no refunds.
