Hyderabad to launch app for women’s hostel booking

HYDERABAD: The Women and Child Welfare Department plans to launch a mobile application that will allow women coming to Hyderabad for studies or jobs to book beds in government working women’s hostels.
Officials said the app will enable users to reserve beds in Sakhi centres, the government-run working women’s hostels, from their homes. The department is designing the application after studying a similar hostel management app operating in Tamil Nadu.
Women and Child Welfare Department plans digital booking system
The department said the initiative is aimed at improving safety and convenience for women travelling to the city. The hostels will offer beds at nominal charges and will be equipped with closed-circuit television cameras and security systems.
Officials said the facility will help women who visit the city for examinations or job interviews and require accommodation for one or two days. Those who cannot afford private hostels can also book beds for short stays at low cost.
App will show hostel vacancies and allow short stays
The mobile application will display real-time information on vacancies in each hostel. Users can choose between single rooms or dormitory accommodation depending on their budget.
At present, about 7,000 women stay in 14 government hostels across the state. Due to high demand, the government is constructing 16 new hostels within the Greater Hyderabad area.
Officials said construction of several hostels, including facilities in Banjara Hills, is in the final stage and they will be opened soon.
