HYDERABAD: A spate of thefts across Hyderabad and Rangareddy district has left residents anxious, with five incidents reported on a single day.

Police said the thefts took place in Pedda Amberpet, Domalguda, Jawaharnagar, Ibrahimpatnam and Kompally. Thieves appeared to target both locked houses and occupied homes, acting with increasing boldness.

Two houses looted in Pedda Amberpet

In Pedda Amberpet, burglars broke into two villas—Nos. 242 and 246—inside the Sadashiva gated community on Sunday night. Villa 242 belongs to Guduru Rajender Reddy (75), who had been staying at his other house in Attapur. The occupants of villa 246, Krishna Reddy and Jyothi, are currently in the United States.

Finding both homes locked, the burglars broke the central locks and decamped with 5 kg of silver, 35 grams of gold, ₹60,000 in cash and valuable sarees. Based on CCTV footage, Hayathnagar Circle Inspector Nagaraju Goud said teams are tracking the suspects.

Elderly couple assaulted in Domalguda

In another case, a caretaker allegedly attacked an elderly couple in Domalguda and fled with jewellery. Anasuyamma and Narsinga Rao (80), residents of Heritage Apartments on Himayatnagar Street No. 6, had hired Govardhan, from Guntur district, as a caretaker about eight months ago.

Police said Govardhan assaulted the couple on Monday and escaped with eight tolas of gold ornaments. A case has been registered at the Domalguda police station, and teams are searching for the accused.

Burglary in Jawaharnagar

In Jawaharnagar, Bhaskar Rao of Bank Colony, Dammaiguda, returned home after four days to find window grills and cupboard locks broken. He reported the theft of three tolas of gold, seven tolas of silver and three foreign watches.

Jewellery stolen in Ibrahimpatnam

In Ibrahimpatnam’s Boyavada, Elamoni Ravinder returned home on Monday evening to find his house ransacked. Around 10 tolas of gold, 10 tolas of silver ornaments and cash were missing. Police said Ravinder and his family had been visiting relatives in Neredmet.

Attempted thefts, silver looted in Kompally

In Kompally, armed burglars carrying iron rods and machetes attempted break-ins at several locked houses. While they failed in some, they managed to steal 1 kg of silver and ₹12,000 in cash from a home in Devender Nagar. Police said an investigation is under way.
