Hyderabad: In an unusual turn of events, a feline was found to be the culprit behind the discovery of a meatloaf inside the place of worship at Tappachabutra in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning.

After analysing the footage of CCTVs installed in the area, the Hyderabad police clarified that a stray carried the meat into the temple and placed it behind the Shiva Lingam, inside the Lord Shiva temple in Sankata Vimochana Hanuman temple.

The police were alerted at 8:20 am about a piece of meat, weighing around 250 grams, found inside the temple premises. Tappachabutra police Inspector A. Ramulu received a call from the temple staff stating that a piece of meat was found on the temple premises.

Acting swifty on the complaint, the Hyderabad city police formed special teams comprising senior officers, including the ACP, Additional DCP, and DCP and launched an investigation into the incident while four teams were assigned the task of analysing the footage of the CCTVs in the area, the press release said.

The footage revealed an unexpected suspect โ€” a stray cat. The mischievous feline was caught on camera carrying a piece of meat into the temple and placing it behind the revered Shiva Lingam, it added. The police have also provided CCTV footage as evidence to support their findings.

Senior police officers commended the special team for their prompt and effective response, The police urged citizens to remain calm and refrain from spreading rumors.

Earlier in the day, tension prevailed in the Tappachabutra area after the locals and right-wing activists gathered in large numbers and staged a dharna on the road. They demanded a thorough probe into the matter and strict action against the culprits.

Reacting to the development, the BJP MLA Raja Singh said the desecration of temples have become common in the city. He pointed out that the authorities have blamed the dog or cat in previous such incidents too. He demanded the authorities to find the culprits and take strictest action against them.
