Hyderabad to launch new employee health scheme

HYDERABAD: The Employees Health Care Trust on Wednesday decided to launch a new health scheme for state employees within 15 days in the presence of the chief minister and deputy chief minister.
The decision was taken at a meeting held at the state secretariat under the chairmanship of chief secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao.
Special chief secretaries C.V. Anand and Mahesh Dutt Ekka, finance department principal secretary Sandeep Sultania, health department principal secretary Christina Z. Chongthu, and leaders of various employee, teacher and retired employees’ associations attended the meeting.
Under the proposed scheme, employees will contribute 1.5% of their basic pay, and the state government will match it with an equal 1.5% contribution.
Scheme to cover 1.4 lakh employees, pensioners
Officials said the state has 1.4 lakh regular employees and pensioners and 12.84 lakh dependents. If Class IV employees, non-gazetted staff, gazetted officers and pensioners contribute 1.5% of their basic pay, the scheme will mobilise ₹ 528 crore annually. The government will contribute an equal amount.
The trust will include six representatives from employee unions and two members from pensioners’ associations. One state government employee will be appointed as chief executive officer of the trust.
Presenting details of the scheme through a PowerPoint presentation, health department officials said guidelines would be finalised in a few days.
Chief secretary Ramakrishna Rao said the government’s objective was to provide better medical facilities to employees. He termed the proposed health scheme a step forward and said future modifications would be decided in trust meetings.
Leaders who attended included TNGO Central Union president Maram Jagadeeshwar, TGO Central Association president Eluri Srinivasa Rao, Telangana Secretariat Association president G. Srinivasa Reddy and general secretary Prem Devender, PRTU representative Damodar Reddy, Telangana United Teachers Federation representative Chava Ravi, Telangana Revenue Association president Vanga Ravinder Reddy, Telangana Retired Officers’ Association Joint Action Committee president Lakshmaiah and women’s president Uma Devi, Telangana Government Retired Employees’ Association representative Nagamba, Class IV Employees’ Association president Dasya Naik and general secretary Sai Kumar, and Telangana Gazetted Officers’ Association president Mohan Narayana and secretary Narsa Raju.
