Osmania General Hospital doctors remove 3 razor blades from teen’s stomach

HYDERABAD: A 16-year-old boy from Hyderabad reached Osmania General Hospital (OGH) around 2 am on Thursday after ingesting multiple razor blades. An X-ray revealed several radio-opaque blade pieces in his stomach.
Doctors remove three blade pieces through endoscopy
The hospital’s Medical Gastroenterology team, led by Professor and Head Dr B. Ramesh Kumar, immediately took up the case. Doctors performed a minimally invasive gastrointestinal endoscopy and removed three razor blade pieces from his stomach.
The sharp pieces made the procedure highly challenging, as they could cause lacerations or perforations during removal.
“The procedure was challenging because there are always chances of internal injuries in the form of lacerations and perforations,” Dr Ramesh Kumar said.
Hospital says teenager has history of mental illness
OGH authorities said the teenager, identified as Rehman, has a history of mental illness. Doctors said he is doing well after the procedure.
Senior health officials said the Medical Gastroenterology team has extensive experience in removing various types of foreign bodies through endoscopy.
