HYDERABAD: Two persons were arrested on January 14, 2026, for selling banned glass-coated nylon Chinese manja in the Yakuthpura area of Hyderabad, police said.

Acting on specific information, the South Zone team of the Commissioner’s Task Force apprehended Hussain Agha, 37, and Syed Saddiq Hussain Jaffery, 35, near the rear side of Murtuza Chaman, within the limits of Rein Bazar police station. Police seized 191 bobbins of banned Chinese manja, valued at ₹1.91 lakh.

According to investigators, Hussain Agha managed his father’s business, while Syed Saddiq Hussain Jaffery worked under him. The accused allegedly procured the banned nylon thread from Ramzan, a resident of Mumbai, who is currently absconding, and sold it locally to earn illegal profits.

Police said the manja was being sold at ₹1,000 per bobbin. The material is known to pose a serious risk to human life and birds due to its glass coating.

The Telangana government banned the procurement, storage, sale and use of Chinese manja in January 2016 under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. Violators face imprisonment of up to five years, a fine of up to ₹1 lakh, or both.

The accused, along with the seized material, were handed over to the station house officer of Rein Bazar police station for further legal action.

The arrests were made under the supervision of Inspector K Adi Reddy, with Sub-Inspectors M Mahesh and S Seshu, and staff of the South Zone Task Force.
