Swastiknagar in Alkapur township struggles for drinking water after pipeline failure

HYDERABAD: Residents of Swastik Nagar, Road No. 13, Alkapur Township, Puppalguda, are experiencing a severe drinking water crisis, despite official assurances that major pipeline repairs are complete.
In response to the crisis, Uttam Kumar Reddy, President of GARWA, filed a formal complaint outlining the hardships residents face. According to the water supply schedule, the last supply was on Sunday. The next scheduled supply, set for Tuesday, was disrupted due to a reported breakdown of the 1200 mm Singur–Khanapur pipeline.
Although Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials stated that repairs were completed within 24 hours, residents did not receive water on the next scheduled supply day, Thursday.
As a result, “Most borewells in the area have already dried up, and groundwater levels have drastically depleted, leaving residents in an extremely difficult situation. It is becoming impossible for families to sustain without an adequate drinking water supply,” Reddy wrote in his complaint.
Residents further report that the pipeline breakdown, followed by the failure to resume supply on Thursday, has left the colony in crisis. With no borewell water and a non-functional tap supply, families are struggling to meet daily cooking and drinking needs.
In light of the ongoing crisis, Reddy has urgently requested that authorities restore the water supply to Swastik Nagar on a priority basis and maintain regular supply schedules without further delay.
“We request authorities to immediately restore and release the drinking water supply to Swastik Nagar. Please treat this matter as urgent in the interest of public health,” the complaint added.
