Hyderabad officials stress student transport safety ahead of new academic year
HYDERABAD: A high-level coordination meeting on student transport safety was held at Ravindra Bharati under the aegis of the Hyderabad Traffic Police ahead of the commencement of the new academic year.
The meeting focused on ensuring the safe travel of schoolchildren across the city. Discussions were held with Transport Department Commissioner Dr K. Ilambarthi, IAS, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner R. V. Karnan, IAS, and officials from various government departments.
Focus on student safety
Participants reviewed measures to strengthen safety protocols for students travelling to and from schools. The discussions covered coordination among departments and the implementation of traffic and transport safety measures.
Officials noted that nearly 12 lakh students studying in about 3,800 schools within the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits depend on safe and reliable transportation.
Responsibility shared by all stakeholders
The meeting emphasised that the safety and protection of students is a shared responsibility of government agencies, school managements, transport operators and parents.

School managements were urged to place children’s welfare at the centre of all operational decisions. Officials also stressed strict compliance with traffic regulations and prescribed safety standards to reduce risks during student transportation.
