Stray dogs maul toddler in Meerpet, child critical

HYDERABAD: A two-year-old boy was critically injured after a pack of around 10 stray dogs attacked him while he was playing near his house in Teachers Colony, Meerpet, on Monday.
The child, identified as Advik, suffered severe injuries in the attack. Family members and neighbours rushed him to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment in critical condition.
According to local residents, the attack occurred in a residential lane where stray dog movement has reportedly increased in recent months. Witnesses said the dogs surrounded the child before attacking him, triggering panic in the neighbourhood.
Residents allege repeated complaints ignored
Residents of Teachers Colony said they had repeatedly complained to civic authorities about the growing stray dog menace in the area. They alleged that no effective measures had been taken despite several incidents involving aggressive dogs.
Locals gathered near the colony after the attack and demanded immediate intervention from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Many expressed anger over what they described as official negligence.
Demand for stronger civic action
Residents urged authorities to conduct sterilisation drives and remove aggressive stray dogs from residential areas. They also called for regular monitoring to prevent similar incidents.
Officials were yet to issue a detailed statement on the incident till late Monday evening.
