Hyderabad STF seizes 1,000 kg jaggery & liquor in Nalgonda raid

Raghavender admitted to mixing ammonium bicarbonate powder and citric acid with locally sourced toddy to produce the illicit beverage.

Hyderabad: Acting on a tip-off regarding the use of jaggery in the production of country-made liquor, a Special Task Force (STF) team from Hyderabad conducted a raid in the Devarakonda Cherukupalli area of Nalgonda district.

The operation resulted in the seizure of 1,000 kg of jaggery, 50 kg of ginger, and 10 liters of country-made liquor from a car.

The STF intercepted the vehicle, valued at Rs 15 lakh, while it was en route from Bidar to the West Thanda area of Devarakonda Mandal. Ramesh, who was transporting the contraband, was driving the vehicle.

In addition to the jaggery, the STF also recovered liquor and other jaggery worth approximately Rs 1.10 lakh. The car itself was valued at Rs 15 lakh.

The STF team, led by Sub-Inspector Balaraju, along with Constables Yadagiri and Kaushik Shankarulu, was praised for their successful operation.

Excise Enforcement Director VB Kamal Haasan Reddy and STF team leader Pradeep Rao congratulated the officers for their efforts in curbing illegal liquor production in the region.

Earlier, on October 3, 2024, Inspector Shivaprasad of the Kadthal Police Station, along with his team, conducted a raid at the residence of Palakurthi Raghavender in Sarikonda village. The operation uncovered Raghavenderโ€™s involvement in the illegal manufacturing and sale of spurious toddy, locally known as Kalti Kallu.

During the search, police discovered four plastic drums filled with spurious toddy in a Bolero vehicle parked at the premises. Raghavender admitted to mixing ammonium bicarbonate powder and citric acid with locally sourced toddy to produce the illicit beverage. He also confessed to selling the spurious toddy in Hyderabad for profit.

The authorities seized several items, including 2 kg of ammonium bicarbonate powder, approximately 900 liters of spurious toddy, an empty citric acid container, and the Bolero vehicle used for transportation.

A case has been registered under CR No. 291/2024 against Raghavender under Section 34(a) of the TSEA Act 1968. The investigation into this illegal operation is ongoing.
