Sonam Wangchuk’s climate fast in solidarity with Ladakhi’s demand- granting of the 6th Schedule under the Indian Constitution
They demanded the fulfillment of Sonam Wangchuk’s request, as promised to Ladakh, regarding the granting of the 6th Schedule under the Indian Constitution. This would align Ladakh with other areas in India with predominantly tribal populations such as Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Mizoram. The protestors emphasized the importance of including Ladakhis in decision-making processes for Ladakh, a fundamental aspect of democratic governance, thereby justifying their demand.
Sonam Wangchuk, an environmentalist, engineer, and education reformist, is undertaking a 21-day climate fast with the aim of safeguarding the environment of Ladakh, specifically focusing on the preservation and conservation of ecologically fragile zones, while promoting the idea of simple living.
Local protestors from Hyderabad demanded the fulfillment of Ladakh people’s wishes as assured by political parties in their manifesto.
